Boasting a private beach area and a terrace with views of the bay and Colombo’s skyline, Mount Lavinia Hotel offers a relaxing getaway. This colonial-style hotel features a spa and 3 dining options. It is the only hotel in Sri Lanka to provide with an underground historical tunnel tour and an in-built historical museum tour.

Located on Mount Lavinia Beach, the hotel is 20-minute drive from the National Zoological Garden in Dehiwala. Driving from Bandaranaike International Airport takes an hour and 30 minutes.

The rooms are built in true colonial style, fitted with dark wood furnishings, air-conditioning, satellite TV, private bathroom with bathtubs and shower facilities and tea/coffee making facilities that help you relax and unwind. Rooms with private balconies faces the bay and Colombo’s Skyline.

The hotel is equipped with 24 hour travel desk, Gym, game room, business center and a shopping arcade. The Balinese spa at the beachfront is available for guests to relax with the private beach view.

Pool area was excellent and staff great.

Pool area lovely. Reception staff very helpful.

We returned here after over 11 years ago where we renewed...

We returned here after over 11 years ago where we renewed our wedding vows in 2008. Its a gorgeous hotel on a cliff top, amazing location, food and wine. You can you choose from buffet menu, a la carte menu and terrace menu. We had high tea on our last afternoon which was excellent value for money. Own private beach and all staff were wonderful and helpful.

every thing, this hotel is my memory from childhood then now as a adult and a expatriate,I come here every opportunity I get, the staff from the doorman to the managers at the entry level up to executive make you feel like part of a family, Suranga,Mendis Kosala and others are great people

Great food, lovely location and friendly staff. Needs a refurb though

Really friendly staff and lovely food in its restaurants.

Rooms, lifts, lobby, bathrooms are all tired and need to be refurbished. The bathrooms in the two rooms we had cracked tiles and toilet system. The shower wasn’t up to standard. The exterior sea facing walls need replastering and a fresh coat of paint. This great property with all its charm will lose its clients if a facelift programme is not done asap.

They have nice pool area with fantastic ocean view and view to Colombo. Many choices for breakfast. The private beach area is also very nice and quiet.

The bathroom is aged and the bed is alright, not especially comfortable.

this is simply the way of Sri Lankan hospitality, it make me proud every time I step in here, what makes this place different from any other is its staff, specially Cedric, doorman strange,koala and nishantha at the restaurant with Nirusha guest service supervisor, and my dear front desk staff Dammika and new comers like Nadim, they all deserve a big grand appreciation, they make mount lavinia hotel a part of my life

A Memorable Stay in a Memorable Historic Building

At last during a four week trip I found a hotel that really does provide a first class service and is value for money, as opposed to some of the other places on “Booking.com” that do not provide what they purport to. The historic nature of the building is fascinating and its location on a promontory overlooking the ocean is stunning. A railway station next door provides easy access into Colombo but frankly, once ensconced in this hotel there is very little incentive to leave it. The staff were very attentive and always helpful. I will definitely revisit this hotel on my next trip to this part of the world.

Nothing really. The hotel building is more than 200 years old and “creaks” a bit in places but that is part of its charm and the people running the hotel have made sure that the rooms and public areas are well maintained and very clean.

This is the most beautiful hotel with the most amazing food. Not only do you have a private beach, a rooftop terrace pool, and 4 restaurants to choose from. The fish is the best and most fresh in the world. The perfect alternative to staying in downtown Colombo

My 13 nights stay at hotel was comfy but not expected with the brand name we paid!

Location and Building is good, ambiance is nice. Mr Dimuthu Jayaratne took good care of us on arrival.

Old buildings, lifts always under maintenance. Breakfast 99.9% same on all 13 days, not a standard of this caliber Hotel. No change even after complaining. Lover level staff were better than seniors in welcoming or may be they got bored seeing us too long stay.

Location. Food expensive but reasonable. Laundry service is good.

Delayed service. Staff friendly but slow. While we got ocean front units we expected them at a higher level. One night construction work done at night disturbing us.

Very average.

I liked the view and that was all.

The hotel is in need of a renovation. The restaurant where they serve breakfast needs to be more organised. There were many dirty tables and therefore no place to sit to have breakfast. I needed to go after a staff member in order to ask for them to clean a table, so I could have my breakfast. Also, the coffee is extremely bad, very weak and has not taste. I asked for another type of coffee but it wasn't included in their 11 euros breakfast. You should pay extra for that. For big hotels like this, it was a huge surprise for me as in small boutique hotels, you can easily get any type of coffee, like cappuccino, expresso, etc, etc.

Large nice clean hotel. Perfect for a get away.

The hotel was a little out of the way of the hustle and bustle. There was plenty of choice for the breakfast which was delicious. We received a complimentary drink on arrival, and they allowed us to check in a couple of hours early as we had a wedding to attend. Good security.

Not what we didn't like, but we didn't spend as much time at the hotel as we thought we would as we only had one nights stay and the day we checked in we were at a friends wedding most of the time. We really only slept and got ready at the hotel.

Very nice place with great view and comfy beds

Very nice hotel with a beautiful view and large breakfast and dinner menu. Great little getaway from Colombo’s business. Also beds are incredibly comfortable and the shower is the best and most consistent we’ve had on our entire trip through Sri Lanka

I had forgotten my suit and the staff were super helpful in DHL'ing it to me in Dubai. Thank you for the support and the room upgrade! will come back again!

The staff, albeit super helpful, weren't always punctual. But it was a busy weekend in srilanka being Eid holidays and a lot of weddings going on :)
